Getting ready for Epsom. Well she’s back together now. I just need to get some road time and make sure she’s back to full fitness.
Well I ride the 9B most of the year weather permitting. Not every week you understand but regularly. So with the Pioneer Run getting ever closer I thought a final shakedown run might be in order. Great riding weather, bright and dry, if only 2C in the sun.
All went well for the first five miles then the problems started. Some roadside attention got me home slowly but there was a real lack of power; 15 mph instead of near to 40. Well the following two weeks had me and Kevin going through the ignition and the carb but with no success and then this week, whilst trying to pedal start her, she seized solid, damn.
Motor out, cylinder off, cases apart; and the locking nut that holds the stud that carries the primary cover has come loose inside the cases. The marks on the piston explain the filings in the oil we drained (the old cast iron piston was replaced some years ago with an alloy one). All do-able but …….. now what’s the date of the Pioneer Run again?
My friend Patrik from Kristinehamn in Sweden has hit a problem on his ’16J build and is looking for a right hand engine / motor case. Preferably in good condition but able to work if some welding is required but no cracks around the bushings please. We can find repro parts but would like to stay original if possible.
And is anyone else out there doing a build on a ’16, maybe with some other spare parts? Please let me or Patrik know. Thanks.
Gordon sent me some pictures of his 1913 single motor. Its VIN 154C means it’s a really early example, magneto ignition and with belt drive (C). Apparently it came from a farm in Canada and was used as a static power plant for agricultural equipment. Real history.
It’s a great start to a build or even just an interesting display piece.
Guy from Greasy Kulture magazine came over again this week, it’s always good to catch up with him and hear about what’s going on. GKM is the only magazine that I’ve ever bought and kept on buying. I have every copy and still like flicking through the old editions. If you like the forties to sixties / chopper culture it’s well worth a look.

Guy came to shoot a couple of bikes for a future edition and he does take a great picture.
My friend Ulf has his 1915 11J for sale. It is a three speed, twin cylinder model with the full electrical package and some lovely accessories. It still has the lighting, horn, tank-top tool box and rear rack after all these years. These are rare machines, being the first year with the three speed transmission and the first year with the eclectic package.
He is looking for about $55k.
You can contact Ulf at: ulfhd@gmx.net
She is finished now just barring a few final adjustments. Comes with UK registration and Pioneer certificate. SOLD
